The new voice for university sport...
British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) is the national organisation for higher education sport in the UK. It brings together expertise and experience from two former representative bodies – British Universities Sports Association (BUSA) and University College Sport (UCS) – to provide a unified voice for sport, fitness and physical activity on university campuses.
BUCS works with student athletes, athletic union staff and elected officers as well as professional sporting staff, coaches and volunteers at 153 member institutions. It offers a comprehensive, multi-sport competition structure and manages the development of services and facilities for participative, grass-roots sport and healthy campuses through to high-performance, elite athletes.
Equestrian Sport within the University Sector
University Equestrianism involves a unique blend of dressage and show-jumping on strange horses. Riders are required to spend around 5 minutes getting acquainted with their horse before competing on them. Each phase is based on a knock out system with the best rider on each horse in each round progressing to the next round, eventually ending up with the two best riders in the final of each phase.
Annual national competitions are held and regulated by British University and Colleges Sport (BUCS). Each year around 500 students take part in national competitions and the most successful ones of them are selected to represent Great Britain as part of a team either at home or abroad

They will put you in touch with other members so that you join like minded people. Many clubs whilst competing also focus on social and training aspects of equestrianism and can provide a really good grounding for any rider.
The biggest bonus is that you do not need your own horse to take part... just turn up and join in on horses provided for you! You do not even need to have ridden a horse before because in most clubs complete beginners are just as welcome as experienced competitors.
