Leaving Malaysia is always a hard decision for us. In our first day in Liverpool, most of us will feel like a fish out of water, gasping for air but afraid not, Liverpool Malaysian Society is here to take all of us under her wings providing us shelter and emotional support. Liverpool Malaysian Society will be our Second Home, a place we can fall back on in times of adversity, and we are one big family supporting and encouraging each another.
No matter how far we are from Malaysia, when two Malaysians are put together, it feels like home. What more if you put 100 Malaysians in a room. The Liverpool Malaysian Society aims to bring fellow Malaysians abroad closer, a little reminder of home. Various fun and cultural activities are held all year long. The year is never short of excitement with so many different celebrations to commemorate. The rich culture with the fusion of the old generations and the young ones bring life at every event. One would be amazed with the splendid food that has to be offered. Malaysians love their food and could spend the whole day talking about it. That is why the society holds many dinners, a showcase of what Malaysia has to offer to the world.
The highlight of the year would be the Malaysian Night. This spectacular event involves not only students but as well as the rest of the Malaysian Community living in Liverpool. The night is filled with folklore with its aim to introduce our culture to the western society and as well as a little reminisce of home for our fellow Malaysian. With the theme being “Unity in Diversity”, the Malaysian Night of 2007 was a success and we are looking forward to holding it again next year.
With her history of being part of the international spice route many hundred years ago, Malaysia has turned into a mosaic of cultures. Everything from its people to its architecture reflects a colourful heritage and an amalgamated culture. To understand Malaysian culture, you must first get to know its people. Discover a land of intriguing diversity through the Liverpool Malaysian Society (LMS).
